This qualification is for those who are undertaking the role of a first aider in the workplace. The qualification meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

Qualification Purpose: This qualification is for those who are undertaking the role of a first aider in the workplace. The qualification meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.
The qualification comprises of 2 Units – Emergency First Aid in the Workplace and Recognition, which is spilt into 7 x Learning Outcomes (LO) and Management of Illness and Injury in the Workplace. which is split into 9 x Learning Outcomes (LO):
U1LO1 – Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider
U1LO2 – Be able to assess an incident
U1LO3 – Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty
U1LO4 – Be able to provide first aid to a casualty who is choking
U1LO5 – Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding
U1LO6 – Know how to provide first aid to a casualty who is in shock
U1LO7 – Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with minor injuries
U2LO1 – Be able to conduct a secondary survey
U2LO2 – Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joints
U2LO3 – Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected head and spinal injuries
U2LO4 – Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected chest injuries
U2LO5 – Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with burns and scalds
U2LO6 – Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with an eye injury
U2LO7 – Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with sudden poisoning
U2LO8 – Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with anaphylaxis
U2LO9 – Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with a suspected major illness

Assessment: This qualification is assessed by the following methods: multiple choice exam questions. Learners must achieve 70% correct answers to pass the exam. Portfolio of evidence. Learners will be observed while performing practical first aid skills.

Pre-requisites:

1. Learners should have a sufficient command of English language
2. Learners should be at least 16 years old in order to undertake the qualification
3. Learners should have the physical capabilities to be able to perform the practical first aid procedures
4. Learners need to be able to provide at least one form of photographic identification or two forms of non-photographic identification.

Progression Opportunities: Learners can progress on to the following qualifications:

1. Level 3 Award in Responding to Anaphylactic Reactions
2. Level 3 Award in Responding to Incidents with an AED
